Lot 2207 USNAVY SEABEES ARCTIC WORK JACKET

This jacket was used exclusively by the Seabees (Naval Construction Battalion) in Iceland and Alaska during World War II for outdoor construction work. The hood was designed to completely cover the face, allowing the Seabees to work under the harshest conditions. The lining is made of alpaca wool pile and highly windproof materials. While it was reportedly worn by Seabees in Alaska, few survivors remain, likely due to its extremely short lifespan. The Naval Construction Battalion (abbreviated as "CB") was named "Sesbees," referring to the unit's "working like bees at sea." The unit's character is depicted as a bee holding a tool.
