Jeans, sweatshirts, leather jackets.
Warehouse is finally taking on the A-2, one of the three sacred treasures of vintage clothing.
The flight suit was first adopted by the then U.S. Army Air Corps in 1931 as a uniform for aircraft crews, and soon became a status symbol for the corps. Highly popular as a highly functional garment that could withstand wind, rain, dirt, and even moderate cold, it was also worn as a casual outer layer on vacation. The knitted cuffs and waistband prevented wind from entering, and the closed collar provided warmth. Made from tanned horse leather, it also did not get caught on steering wheels, steering instruments, corners, or other sharp objects inside the aircraft, as cloth clothing did. (MA-1, published by World Photo Press in 1993)
The Type A-2, which began in 1931 and was born from feedback from pilots about improvements to the A-1 jacket, was originally manufactured by its leading supplier, Werber Leather Coat Co., which initially used the same stud buttons on the pocket flaps as the A-1. Having already earned the trust of the Quartermasters through multiple patents for leather jackets, the company leveraged its experience to improve the pocket flaps to snap buttons. Despite the establishment of the NRA labor union, which placed even more restrictions on production plants, Werber Leather Coat Co. succeeded in reducing costs and updating functionality to meet the military's demands. Thus, in 1933, the first delivery of the complete Type A-2 was Order No. 33-1729. Miraculously, Warehouse acquired this first model several years ago. From there, the development of materials began step by step, and after a long process, the jacket was finally born. The most distinctive feature from the outside is the riveted zipper ends. This zipper, which predates the distinctive eyelets from the early 1930s, is a symbol of the earliest A-2s.
