This double-eared bandana with a polka dot pattern is highly sought after in the vintage market. Because it was woven on a rare, specialized loom, it features selvedge on both sides of the fabric. While bandanas typically have selvedge on one side, even older styles like this one exist with selvedge on both sides. This is because, in an era when the technology of old-fashioned power looms called shuttle looms was still in its infancy, skipping the weft thread over long distances increased the risk of weaving defects and other problems. Because the bandana is narrow, instead of splitting two pieces horizontally, it is split into a single piece, resulting in selvedge on both sides. The indigo fabric also features a noticeable fade.
